Why is my TikTok not getting views? A diagnosis by symptom

Low views have a handful of common causes, and they look different from each other in the numbers. Match the symptom first; the fix follows from it.

The short answer

Most TikToks that stop under a few hundred views failed their first test audience: the opening lost viewers before the third second, or the middle dragged and too few people finished. Zero views usually means the video is still processing, is under review, or was posted from a brand-new account that has not yet been trusted with an audience. A sudden drop after months of good numbers is usually a change in what you post, not a punishment. Shadowbans as creators imagine them are rare; a video that breaks a guideline is removed or marked ineligible for the For You feed, and the app tells you which.

Is it a shadowban?

Probably not, and it is worth being precise about what the word means. TikTok does restrict videos and, occasionally, accounts. When it does, the video is removed or marked as not eligible for the For You feed, and there is a notification. What creators usually call a shadowban is three videos in a row that failed the test batch for the same reason, most often an opening that has drifted into “hey guys, so today”. The evidence is in the retention graph, which starts falling at second one on all three.

The test: post a video with a deliberately sharp first line, a result in the first frame, under twenty seconds. If it clears 300 views, there is no ban. There was a hook problem.

What to do in the next 24 hours

  1. Do not delete the video. Do not repost the same file three times.
  2. After 24 hours, open its analytics and look at the retention graph, not the view count.
  3. Find the second where the line falls fastest. If it is second one to three, it is the opening. If it is later, it is the middle.
  4. Cut the next video accordingly, and score the new cut before it goes up.
  5. Post it at an hour your analytics say your viewers are awake, and leave the first comment.

Where the app fits

The diagnosis above is done after posting, on the video's own graph. Go Viral does the same read beforehand: the hook score catches the second-three cliff, the engagement heat map marks the sag, and the view forecast says which of two cuts is more likely to clear the batch. It cannot tell you the video is under review, and it cannot know your posting time. Those stay with you.

Low view questions

Why does my TikTok have 0 views?

Zero after an hour usually means the video is still processing or is under review, which the app shows as a note on the video. On a brand-new account, the first few videos can also sit at zero for a day while the account is trusted with a test audience. Zero after 48 hours, with no review note, is rare; check that the video is set to public and that the audio is not restricted in your region.

How long does it take for TikTok to push a video?

The first test batch is usually served within the first hour or two. If it passes, the next round follows over the following day. Videos also resurface: a clip that did little in its first week can be picked up weeks later when a search or a related video sends people to it.

Should I delete a TikTok that flopped?

No. Deleting does not reset anything useful and removes the chance of a late pickup. Leave it, read its retention graph once it has one, and put the fix into the next video. Reposting the same file more than once in a short window is the one thing to avoid.

Does posting time matter?

Yes, but less than the first three seconds. Post when the people you want are awake and scrolling, which your own analytics show once you have a few videos up. A perfect posting time cannot save a video that loses the test audience at second two.

Find the cliff before the test audience does

Import the next clip, read where the curve bends, recut, and post the version that scored higher. It is the same diagnosis, a day earlier.
