How often to post on TikTok: more posts, same typical post

Buffer analyzed 11.4 million TikTok posts and compared each account with itself as its posting rate changed. This page reads those numbers plainly, shows what changes when you post more and what stays the same, and gives a weekly cadence you can review before each new video goes up.

Two to five posts a week, and what that buys

The evidence on how often to post on TikTok points to 2 to 5 posts a week, the band Buffer recommends after a study of 11.4 million posts from more than 150,000 accounts, published 8 October 2025. Buffer compared each account with itself against a one-post-a-week baseline. Average views per post ran up to 17% higher at 2 to 5 a week and up to 34% higher at 11 or more.

The median post barely moved: 489 views at one a week, 506 at 2 to 5, 459 at 11 or more. Posting more adds chances at an occasional breakout; the typical video stays where it was. TikTok says analytics can take 1 to 2 days to update, so space posts far enough apart to read one before you script the next.

Does posting more on TikTok get more views?

Posting more raised average views per post in Buffer’s data and left the median post close to where it started. Buffer used a fixed-effects model, which compares each account with itself over time instead of comparing large accounts with small ones. One post a week is the baseline. Here are the four bands.

Buffer posting-frequency bands: average uplift and median views per TikTok post
Posts a weekAverage views per post, against one a weekMedian views per post
1 (baseline)Baseline489
2 to 5Up to 17% higher506
6 to 10Up to 29% higher487
11 or moreUp to 34% higher459

Read the two columns separately. The average column climbs at every step. The median column rises by 17 views at 2 to 5, then drops below the 489 baseline at 6 to 10 and again at 11 or more. Buffer’s recommendation is the 2 to 5 band, the one row where both columns go up.

A rising average with a flat median means more breakouts

Buffer's October 2025 study of 11.4 million TikTok posts, each account compared with itself. Left: how much higher average views per post were than at one post a week. Right: median views per post, which barely move. The gap is breakout videos pulling the average up.

An average climbs when a few videos do far better than usual; a median moves only when the typical video changes. Average views per post is total views divided by posts, so one video that travels well past its usual For You audience lifts the figure for the whole set. The median is the middle post once they are lined up by views. One outlier barely shifts it.

Put Buffer’s rows side by side. Accounts posting 11 or more times a week had average views per post up to 34% above their own one-a-week baseline, and a median post of 459 views against 489. More posts gave more tickets to an outlier, and the ordinary video did not improve. That is the whole trade.

How many times a day should you post on TikTok?

Less than once a day, if each video is meant to improve the next one. TikTok’s help page on posts that are not getting views says analytics data may take 1 to 2 days to update. A creator posting twice a day publishes 2 to 4 more videos before the first one’s numbers settle, and judges each of them on figures that are still filling in.

The loop is short. Post, wait for average watch time and watched full video to fill in, find the second where viewers left, then write a different opening for the next video. TikTok’s Creator Academy lists both metrics, plus traffic sources, in video analytics. Posting every day on TikTok means each new opening is decided before yesterday’s video has finished reporting.

A workable cadence leaves about two days between posts you want to learn from. If a video still shows low numbers after it settles, work through the checks for a TikTok that is not getting views before changing how often you post.

Four posts a week for four weeks buys 12 extra tries

A creator moving from 1 to 4 posts a week for four weeks makes 16 posts instead of 4. The arithmetic: 4 posts × 4 weeks = 16, against 1 × 4 = 4, so 12 extra posts. On Buffer’s medians the typical post goes from 489 to about 506 views. That is 17 more views, roughly 3.5% of 489.

The difference is in tries. Sixteen openings give 16 chances for one video to break out of its usual audience; four give four. Buffer’s average figure for the 2 to 5 band, up to 17% above one a week, is where those occasional breakouts show up. Nothing in the 506-view median says the 16th video will beat the 4th.

Spread the four posts as Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Three of the four gaps are two days, which covers TikTok’s 1 to 2 day analytics delay, so each video’s watch time is readable before the next opening is written. The fourth gap, Sunday to Monday, is one day, so write Monday’s opening from Friday’s numbers.

New accounts follow the same rule

A new account can post 2 to 5 times a week like any other, because frequency is absent from what TikTok publishes about For You. TikTok lists content you like, share, comment on, and watch in full or skip; sounds, hashtags and number of video views; and device settings, language, location and time zone. Posting rate is not on the list.

Frequency is a capacity decision. For a new account the scarce thing is a strong first 3 seconds, and each extra post needs one. The steps for an account at zero are in going viral on TikTok with no followers, which works through what decides a new account’s first views. Length changes the cost of each post too, and how long a TikTok should be covers that side of the budget.

Go Viral fills a 2 to 5 post week and checks each opening

Go Viral covers the writing and the opening check; it does not post for you or read your TikTok analytics. The Idea Generator returns trend-aligned content ideas, and the Script Generator turns a topic into a ready-to-record short-form script, which covers the writing behind four posts a week. Formats to feed it are on the TikTok video ideas page.

Hook Score is the gate. It evaluates the first 3 seconds of an imported clip on a 0 to 100 scale, so a weak opening gets rewritten before it takes one of the week’s four slots. The Hook Score page explains what the number reads. The app is free to download on iPhone and iPad; a paid subscription is required to use all features.

Posting frequency questions

How often should I post on TikTok?

Two to five times a week is the band Buffer recommends. In its October 2025 study of 11.4 million posts, that band had average views per post up to 17% above one post a week, while the median post stayed near 500 views (506 against 489). Pick the count you can script, film and review every week.

Is it bad to post on TikTok every day?

TikTok publishes no rule that penalises daily posting; the cost is your feedback. Analytics can take 1 to 2 days to update, so a daily poster decides each opening before yesterday’s numbers settle. Seven a week sits in Buffer’s 6 to 10 band: average views per post up to 29% above one a week, median 487 against 489.

How often should a new account post on TikTok?

A new account can use the same 2 to 5 posts a week. The For You factors TikTok publishes include likes, shares, comments, watching in full or skipping, sounds, hashtags and settings such as language, and none of them refers to how often an account posts. Choose the count that still leaves a fresh opening for every video.

Does deleting and reposting help?

Reposting the same file repeatedly is a weak substitute for a new opening. TikTok says it typically does not recommend content a viewer has already seen, so a repost can miss the people who scrolled past it the first time. If a video stalled, keep the idea and film it again with a different first 3 seconds.

Four posts a week, each one checked

Go Viral’s Idea Generator and Script Generator fill the week’s slots, and Hook Score rates each opening from 0 to 100 before it goes up.
