What a short-form video script contains

A short-form video script has five parts, and each one has a time. The hook, inside the first three seconds, spoken and on screen. The promise, by second eight, which says what the viewer will have by the end. The payoff, delivered in pieces rather than all at once, so there is a reason to stay through each piece. One turn, a detail the viewer did not expect, placed where the middle would otherwise sag. And an ending that either lands the promise in one line or leads straight back to the first frame so the video loops. A script that has these five, with times next to them, can be recorded by someone who has never made a video. A script that is a paragraph cannot.

The 15-second script

Worked script, home cooking. “This is the only pancake recipe that survived my grandmother. One bowl, no whisk. The trick is the water is fizzy, and that is the whole difference. Still one bowl.” Thirty-four words. The fizzy water is the turn; “still one bowl” sends the viewer back to the first frame.

The 30-second script

Worked script, personal finance. “I found $214 a month in an app I forgot I was paying for. Here is how to find yours in five minutes. First, the bank statement, not the app store; the store hides the ones billed through a card. Second, search the statement for the word ‘monthly’. Third, anything you cannot name the login for, cancel. The one I missed was a language app I had not opened since 2024. Five minutes. Go find yours.” Seventy-six words.

The 60-second script

A 60-second video needs a new reason to stay roughly every fifteen seconds. The mini-hooks at the end of each part are what the retention heat map shows as replay moments when they work and as a slide when they are missing.

Worked script, fitness, first 25 seconds. “Stop doing crunches. This is the three minutes that replaced them. I had done crunches every morning for two years and had a sore neck and the same stomach. So I tried three exercises a physio gave my mum, of all people. The first one is a dead bug, and it looks like nothing. But that is not the part that worked.”

How the generator works in the app

Type the topic as a sentence. “How I stopped a two-year-old from waking at five” is a topic. “Parenting” is not.
Pick the platform and the length. The beat sheet changes with the length.
Read the script with the times. Cut any beat you cannot show on screen.
Generate two or three alternative first lines with the hook generator and pick the one you can say naturally.

Four ways a script becomes a monologue

Paragraphs. If a beat is more than two sentences, it is two beats.
Explaining before showing. Show the pan, then say why. The other order loses second five.
The call to action in the middle. “Follow for part two” at second twenty is where the curve breaks. Put it in the caption.
No visual note. A script that only says what is spoken leaves the camera pointing at a face for sixty seconds.

Script questions

How long should a TikTok script be?

Count words, not pages. Natural speech on camera runs around two and a half words a second, so a 15-second script is roughly 35 to 40 words, a 30-second script 70 to 80, and a 60-second script 140 to 160. If the draft is longer, the video will be longer than you planned or you will be talking too fast to be understood.

Should I read from a script on TikTok?

Write it, then do not read it. Learn the beats, keep the first line word for word, and say the rest the way you would say it to a friend. A read script sounds read, and the hook score will usually show it in the first line.

Can the generator write scripts for Reels and Shorts?

Yes. Choose the platform and the length, and the beats are the same with two adjustments: Shorts gets a searchable phrase in the first line for the title, and Reels leans on the first frame, so the visual note for second zero matters more.

Do I need a script for a talking-head video?

You need the first line and the beat order. Most talking-head videos that stall have a strong idea and a first sentence that starts with "so". A one-line script for the hook and four bullet points for the body is enough.
